چکیده

In this study we investigated the effect of jitter and longterm F0 measures on perceived emotional stress using stimuli synthesized with the LPC coefficients of a steady vowel and varying F0-tracks. The original F0 tracks were taken from naturally occurring speech in stressful and not stressful conditions. Stimuli with more jitter were rated as sounding more hoarse but not more stressed. Mean and maximum F0 within an utterance correlated highly (r>0.8) with stress ratings but range of F0 did not correlate significantly with the stress ratings, especially after the effect of maximum F0 was removed by stepwise regression.

Vocal Age Disguise: The Role of Fundamental Frequency and Speech Rate and Its Perceived Effects

The relationship between vocal characteristics and perceived age is of interest in various contexts, as is the possibility to affect age perception through vocal manipulation. A few examples of such situations are when age is staged by actors, when ear witnesses make age assessments based on vocal cues only or when offenders (e.g., online groomers) disguise their voice to appear younger or olde...

Fundamental frequency of phonation and perceived emotional stress.

Nonlinguistic information about the speaker's emotional state is conveyed in spoken utterances by means of several acoustic characteristics and listeners can often reliably identify such information. In this study we investigated the effect of short- and long-term F0 measures on perceived emotional stress using stimuli synthesized with the LPC coefficients of a steady vowel and varying F0 track...

Manipulations of F0 Contours in Affective Speech Analysis

The study attempts to investigate the role of intonation contour in vocal expressions of emotions. For the needs of the study a dataset of utterances with manipulated intonation contour was created (F0 contour replacement). Manipulations were carried out using annotated and segmented speech recordings, including emotion portrayals, by professional actors. Segmentation of the recordings to sylla...

Acoustic and perceptual effects of vocal training in amateur male singing

This paper reports our investigation of the acoustic effects of vocal training for amateur singers and of the contribution of those effects to perceived vocal quality. Recording singing voices before and after vocal training and then analyzing changes in acoustic parameters with a focus on features unique to singing voices, we found that two different F0 fluctuations (vibrato and overshoot) and...

Effects of dynamic pitch and relative scaling on the perception of duration and prosodic grouping in American English

Results of two perception experiments suggest that using timing measures alone to compute prosodic structure misses valuable information from pitch. Previous research showed that pitch can distort perceived duration: tokens with dynamic or higher f0 are perceived as longer than comparable level-f0 or lower-f0 tokens, and silent intervals bounded by tokens of widely differing pitch are heard as ...
